For many men, romance is perceived as yet one more effort they must make to get their needs met in a love affair, an effort they would rather not have to make. Some men see romance as unnecessary altogether. Men are pretty simple--right? Eat, sleep, work, make love. Why complicate a love affair with romance? There may even be some women who do not feel a need for romance. But by far, most women appreciate and, yes, need romance.
Here's why: Men tend to be singleminded. When they engage themselves with a woman, they are focused. Women, however, multi-task. When a woman is with a man, and especially if she has a family to raise, she must turn off all these tasks (compartments, if you will) before she can focus in the singleminded manner in which a man focuses. This does not make her stupid, frigid, or uninteresting. It does make her in need of a partner who knows the art of romance, an art that consists largely of assisting one's lover in focusing on pleasure.
Even if your immediate goal is not necessarily the ultimate act of intimacy, romance can greatly heighten the pleasure of the relationship. When a woman experiences romance, she is far more likely to be receptive to her partner's playfulness than without romance. Romance is also a state of attentiveness that conveys a sense to one's lover that he or she is worth your time and effort. Women are by nature creatures who need attention. It is to a man's advantage to give this attention to a woman in the form of romance. This state of attentiveness combined with other acts of romance, such as bringing flowers, slowdancing, or holding hands and talking, will bring about a feeling of contentment, support, and pleasure in your relationship.
Likewise, if your man has natural romantic inclinations, validate his romantic nature by playing his lovegame, caressing him, flirting with him, or asking him out to dinner. Just as women need special attention paid to them on a regular basis, a man needs to feel appreciated and that you are proud of him. Put a romantic and/or sexy note in his briefcase to be found at work. Keep him guessing what you'll do next to romance him. Satisfy his need for recognition and enrich his life with romance!
